CLASS DESCRIPTION

NOTICE: To take this class, you will need a Firearms Eligibility Card (EC) issued by a county sheriff. You will not be able to sign up for a class until you have completed the the following steps. If you sign up without going through the proper state required process you will be rescheduled for the next class once your Eligibility card has been issued by your county sheriff. When you are ready to sign up, you can email training@centennialgunclub.com with your 1.) Application ID & 2.) Your Firearm Safety Course Eligibility Card number.

Step 1: Customer Application- Go to the "Firearms Safety System" website and create a user account to complete an application. If you have hunter education, you will add the information to your application during this step. Once you ht submit, your application will be sent to the queue of the county sheriff office that you selected/applied to. It will not be processed until you complete step #2 in this journey. Step 2: Sheriff's Office- You must provide a name-based background check and government-issued photo ID to the county sheriff's office for your application to be processed. Visit the sheriffs website for detailed instructions on submitting this information.

--Two fees will be collected during this step : $52 for CPW to cover administrative costs, and any other fee assessed by the sheriff.

Step 3: Sheriff Review and Eligibility Card Issuance- The sheriff will review your documentation, determine your eligibility, and issue an eligibility card (EC) that is good for five years. Your eligibility card information will be entered in the Firearms Safety System during this step. You will be notified via email if you are approved or denied. If denied an EC, you will be contacted by the sheriff's office.

Step 4: Course and Exam- You must find an approved instructor to enroll in a course. A fee may be association with this step. The instructor will verify your eligibility to take the Basic (four hours) or Extended (12 hours) course. At the end of the course, you must pass an exam and hands-on practical with a minimum score of 90%. When the instructor enters pass or fail, you will receive an email immediately. If you pass the course, you will have five years to purchas specified semiautomatic firearms.

Step 5: Purchase and FFL Verification- A Federal Firearms Licensed dealer will confirm eligibility and begin their purchase process, which includes a fee, for a Colorado Bureau of Investigation background check, and a three-day waiting period. After five years, you mush begin the process again from Step 1.

Once the application is approved, you will contact a verified (by the Sheriff) Firearms Safety Instructor to sign up for the appropriate class. The instructor will have access to CPW’s database to determine whether you are eligible for the Basic Firearms Safety Course or if you must take the Extended Firearms Safety Course. Instructors will teach a standardized curriculum provided by CPW, that meets the training requirements of the law.

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR

  • Anyone who has a Firearms Eligibility Card issued by their County Sheriff and would like to purchase a Specified Semi-Automatic Firearm.
  • Under Colorado's SB25-003, any resident purchasing or transferring a Specified Semiautomatic Firearm (SSF) must complete an in-person, state-certified firearms safety course and obtain an eligibility card. SSFs include semiautomatic rifles/shotguns and gas-operated handguns with detachable magazines. Current owners are grandfathered in and exempt.

  • You must have a verified Hunter Ed card in order to take this class. The course is a duration of 4 hours of instruction.Students must pass the course with a minimum score of 90% on their final exam along with passing a practical application. When the course is completed, the Instructor will input students' scores in the CPW Firearms Safety database within 3 business days.
  • Completion of any other firearm safety course does NOT satisfy the requirements to purchase SSFs. You will need to take Hunter Education and the Basic (4 hour) class, or just the Extended (12 hour) class without taking Hunter Education. All background checks and courses taken for a concealed carry weapon (CCW) are not reciprocal for the Firearms Safety Program.
  • Students must pass the course with a minimum score of 90% on their final exam
  • Firearms Safety courses expire after 5 years. After expiration, you must take another basic course to purchase SSFs.

WHAT TO BRING

  • There is no live fire in this course, you DO NOT need to bring a firearm. NO firearms or live ammunition is allowed in the classroom.

Course Cancellation and Change Policy

  • Attendee substitutions may be made at any time.
  • Classes rescheduled less than 48 hours will incur a rescheduling fee of $25 per person.
  • Failure to attend the course, or cancellations less than 24 hours in advance, will result in no refund, credit of the course fee, or rescheduling.
  • Centennial Gun Club reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes at any time. If we cancel or reschedule a class due to weather or circumstances beyond our control, you are entitled to a full refund.
  • Centennial Gun Club is not responsible for travel arrangements, travel fees, or any expenses incurred by you as a result of such cancellation. If Centennial Gun Club cancels a class in which you are enrolled, you will be contacted at the email address you used to register. Please be sure to provide a valid email address and check your email before class.
