RULES & PREREQUISITES

Firearm Safety Rules

  • Loaded firearms are not permitted at any time.
  • All firearms must be bagged or cased when not on the firing line.
  • Firearms must remain in the following condition until instructed otherwise:
    • Magazine well empty
    • Chamber empty
  • Firearms may only be unbagged/uncased at the firing line and must always be pointed downrange.
  • Competitors may handle firearms only under the direction of the Range Officer (RO) or Scoring RO.
  • Holsters are not allowed.
  • Trigger finger must remain completely outside the trigger guard and indexed on the frame until sights are on target.
  • All CGC range safety rules apply to the Indoor Shooting League.

Match Format – “Fixed Time”

  • “Fixed time” means competitors are given a predetermined amount of time to fire a specified number of rounds per string.
  • Example: A target is exposed for 20 seconds. The competitor has 20 seconds to fire 10 rounds before the target disappears.
  • There will be 5 strings of fire per division.
  • Each course of fire requires 50 rounds.
  • In the event of a tie a shoot-off will be determined to break the tie(s).

Participation & Eligibility

  • Competitors must compete in at least 2 of the 3 months per division to be eligible for scores and awards. No exceptions.
  • Competitors may shoot in both divisions.
  • The same firearm must be used for the entire three-month period to remain eligible for prizes.
  • Equipment Requirements – Handguns must have a minimum magazine capacity of 10 rounds and chambered in 9mm or larger. Have magazines pre-loaded before arriving at CGC.

The NRA D-1 Target will be used for all courses of fire.

  • If a shot breaks the line, the higher point value is given.
  • In the case of excess shots being fired on the target, the number of excess shots will be removed, beginning with the top scoring shots.
  • If competitors have the exact same score, the number of X hits will determine which competitor places first in the rankings.
  • There are NO reshoots allowed when a competitors handgun malfunctions. The competitor is required to clear the malfunction and finish the course of fire in the allotted time.
  • Score sheets initialed by the competitor are final.
  • The Range Master has final say on all scoring disputes.

RANGE COMMANDS & PROCEDURES

1. “Make Ready”

  • At this command, the competitor may uncase or unbag their firearm for the course of fire.
    • The competitor may turn on their optic and take a sight picture before chambering round.
    • The competitor will then chamber a round and assume the designated start position.

2. Start Position – “Compressed Ready”

The start position is compressed ready, defined as:

  • Finger off the trigger
  • Elbows bent and touching the ribcage
  • Firearm held horizontally and pointed at the backstop

Once the competitor is in the proper start position, the Range Officer (RO) will give the next command:

3. “Are You Ready... Stand By”

  • After “Stand By,” the automatic target system will activate within 1–3 seconds.
  • When the target appears, the competitor must fire the required number of rounds within the time specified before the target disappears.

4. Subsequent Strings of Fire

  • After the first string of fire, the RO will instruct the competitor to load for the next string.
  • This process continues until all required strings have been completed.

5. “Unload and Show Clear”

After the final string, the RO will issue the following commands:

  • “Unload and show clear.”
  • “If clear, hammer down and case/bag your firearm.”

Unload and Show Clear Procedure:

  1. Remove the magazine from the handgun.
  2. Eject the live round from the chamber.
  3. Show the RO that the chamber is clear.
  4. Allow the slide to move forward.
  5. Point the handgun directly downrange and dry fire.
